Welche Kunst ist Klasse? – Von der Kultur im Klassenkampf
Who really makes culture in big institutions? And who’s actually watching? We all know it – cultural spaces have a class problem. So, we keep talking about classism and representation. But is that enough?! Let’s dive in: How do class struggle and culture come together? What does class struggle in culture even mean? Can culture fuel the class struggle? To what extent is culture in capitalism itself a place of exploitation? And what does this mean for places like the Volksbühne, born from the spirit of class struggle?
Featuring: The Working Class Festival (Alegre Verlag) teamed up with ex-GKN workers to throw a working class literature festival right in their occupied factory. GKN collective consists of workers who have occupied the car parts factory in Campi Bisenzio near Florence after 422 workers were dismissed without notice. Since taking over, the GKN collective has been battling to control what they produce. Let’s talk about how workers can shape their own narratives and define their own images. How do labor struggles and culture collide and go together? Inti Phaj’s from El Alto, Bolivia. What does class-conscious culture look like in their neighborhood?
