my age 14/15
Film/Reading/Performance and Q&A, 60 min, Arabic (with German subtitles) and German, ages 14+
The youth ensemble from The Freedom Theatre in Jenin was all set to share their powerful piece, „My Age 14/15,“ about growing up in occupied territory. But due to bureaucratic red tape, they couldn’t get their visas in time.
Not letting that stop them, they’re filming their stories in the Jenin refugee camp and premiering the film at our festival. At the same time, a group of Berlin teens will team up with Ahmad Tobasi, the artistic director of The Freedom Theatre, on festival Saturday. They’ll work on the monologues in a workshop and perform them live on stage that evening.
This special FESTIWALLA event mixes film, reading, and performance. Afterward, we’ll try to connect with the ensemble via video call for a Q&A session.
This is a production of the Community Theater „The Freedom Theatre Jenin,“ nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024 and founded in 1987 by Jewish activist Arna Mer, who was awarded the Alternative Nobel Peace Prize.
