Die Weltlichkeit der Künste | Arendt im 21. Jahrhundert

Hannah Arendt’s political philosophy and theory resonate strongly with our era. However, her considerations about the role of the arts and their relevance for the political public are little known. Although Arendt did not publish any works on the philosophy of art, her thoughts and writings reveal that artistic practices, their contexts, and media are central to what she called “worldliness”: a political space in which a plurality of voices can be heard as the prerequisite for criticism and judgement. Based on the publication of the anthology Hannah Arendt und die Weltlichkeit der Künste (2025), the editors Judith Siegmund, Anne Eusterschulte, and Marita Tatari will discuss the political dimension of the arts in Arendt’s thinking.
