Velvet Voice Club • TEXTE ZUR KUNST

TEXTE ZUR KUNST’s first issue on the topic of sculpture approaches contemporary sculptural production as a critical practice that leverages spatial conditions as a way of conducting experiments on different forms of physical and social consciousness, addressing experiences of difference, and negotiating structural exclusions. Keying into negotiations on the current status of the sculptural “object” and its increasingly expanded materiality, the Velvet Voice Club will dedicate the soft launch of TZK’s forthcoming issue to the notion of sound as a sculptural and superlatively social medium.

Susan Philipsz’s sound sculptures and installations highlight the emotional and psychological effect of sound in public spaces and architectures. In conversation with the curator and TZK advisory board member Sven Beckstette, the artist will discuss the spatial and physical properties of sound, as exemplified in a selection of her current projects. The Roter Salon will then be filled with the dense yet fragile sound textures of the Berlin band Sir Percy. The musical program of the evening will be contributed by a remarkably perfect “find” – the band’s label OBJETROUVÉ, whose vinyl releases are issued as “editions” enriched with explicitly sculptural qualities. Following the live performance, label founder Stéphane Argillet will play a few records.

This round of the Velvet Voice Club brings the two-year series at Roter Salon to a close. Therefore, the team of TZK is all the more looking forward to welcoming everyone to celebrate the occasion with them.

The talk will be held in English.
