“If you want to write about the cruelty of reality, it mustn’t be in a realistic style,“ says The Uncanny Girl, providing its author with a clever clue and survival strategy. Director and author Pat To Yan has left his mark on the experimental Hong Kong theatre scene. He now lives in Berlin. In his theatre texts, he merges science fiction and magical realism to create a world of its own, dealing with life and death and survival in politically repressive systems. His world is populated by mythologically inspired, allegorical figures oscillating between human and animal, between human and artificial intelligence. And yet there are glimmers of love and hope amid all the darkness, carrying the belief that change is possible.
With sound designer Eric Wong, set designer Davide Raiola and members of the Volksbühne ensemble, Pat To Yan will presents his new book, a collection of the three pieces of his universal China trilogy.
