scripted reality is a programme for experimental film narratives by queer-feminist artists in feature and short formats including video clips. The focus is on works between the poles of documentary and auto-fiction relating everyday life stories. Troves from YouTube, Instagram and TikTok are presented on a par with experimental film discoveries from film archives around the world.

The VIDEOTHEK am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz proudly presents their second filmmaker in the programme, Slovakian-born Sandra Makhlouf, with the film ŽIVÁ VODA / THE LIVING WATER episode III of Trauer ohne Abschied in a preview screening.

Makhlouf, born in 1997, has a Slovakian-Syrian background and lives in Hamburg. ŽIVÁ VODA / THE LIVING WATER  tells the story of Tereza, who upon returning to the place of her birth – a popular tourist destination– to renew her passport, finds herself sitting on the fence between resident and visitor in the city.

The screening is followed by a discussion on Ambiguous loss hosted by Martha Mechow. The term challenges western ideas of coping with bereavement by introducing the strategy of „navigating loss without closure.“ The talk is themed around the question of how artistic production could serve as a means of navigating this loss.
