Psychic Liberation
Psychic Liberation (PL) is a label founded in 2013 that originally ran with Miguel Alvariño under the title Primitive Languages as a cassette and record store project in New York City. Since 2019, Nick Klein has been running it solo out of the EU under the title Psychic Liberation. On May 25th Mark Fell, Wilted Woman, Dungeon Acid and EVOL will perform at the monthly concert series of the same name in the Roter Salon – curated by Hugo Esquinca and Nick Klein.
Mark Fell is a multidisciplinary artist based in Rotherham (UK). His practice draws upon electronic music subcultures, experimental film, contemporary philosophy and radical politics. Over the past 30 years Fell’s output has grown into a significant body of work – from early electronic sound works and recorded pieces, to installation, critical texts, curatorial projects, educational systems and choreographic performances.
Wilted Woman is the primary musical alias of Elizabeth Davis since 2014. Her output under the WW name disregards genre or easy categorization, ranging from minimalist electroacoustics to harsh noise to something resembling club music. She composes using a combination of self-made instruments and software, violin, drum machines, bluetooth peripherals, and other sounding objects. In addition to her solo work, she regularly collaborates with Silvia Kastel as Shakey, with Christoph de Babalon as Suds, and with Nick Klein.
As WW, she has released over 20 records to date on labels such as Alien Jams, Primitive Languages/Psychic Liberation, Phantasy, and Stenze Quo. Davis has performed at venues and festivals across Europe and North America including Sonic Acts, Cafe Oto, Transmediale, ZKM, Fylkingen, Meakusma, and Volksbühne, as well as countless basements, clubs, restaurants, and living rooms.
Dungeon Acid
Jean-Louis Huhta has played in groups such as The Skull Defekts, Lucky People Center, and Anti-Cimex. He has composed music for several dance works and participated in installation works and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. In 2010, Jean-Louis started the solo project Dungeon Acid, which he produces and plays live with to this day.
EVOL
Since the late nineties, Roc Jiménez de Cisneros and his collaborators have been producing what they call „computer music for hooligans“, inspired by geometry, metaphysics, noise, cosmology and rave culture. A vortex of generative basslines, air horns and fuzzy arpeggios, their music displays a radical and playful approach to algorithmic composition, with works available on Entr’acte, Mego, Presto!?, Diskono, Scarcelight, fals.ch and their very own ALKU.
Patiño [Stereophonic DJ Set]
Patiño will play a stereophonic DJ set that blends diverse genres and sound sources, with a special focus on music from Spain and Latin America.
Rubén Patiño is an Amsterdam-based artist who explores sound generated by electronic means and its potential to transform the perception of space (imaginary, physical, and social). His practice tends to challenge standardized formats of presentation that blend the boundaries between concerts, public events, and installations. Solo or in collaboration, Patiño’s works have been presented in museums, clubs, festivals, and galleries in Europe, America, Asia, Africa, Russia, and Australia. He has published on labels such as Anòmia, Haunter Records, Diagonal Records, The Trilogy Tapes, Where To Now? The Death of Rave and Gang of Ducks.
