Two turntables, a camera and a beamer, two mics, one screen. This is the stage direction for the event series Plattenspieler. The host Thomas Meinecke will invite varying guests to talk about music, cultural contexts, visual designs and stories about and experiences with music.

Meinecke makes his Volksbühne debut on 21 October 2022 with jazz legend and drummer Günter Baby Sommer, a key figure in the sensational GDR free jazz sphere and far beyond it, who’s still internationally touring with younger musicians, and with his own solo shows, of course.

Thomas Meinecke is a writer, musician and DJ, and he says he’s very excited to see which records Baby Sommer will bring along on this occasion. Meinecke, too, will unpack a couple of records from his own collection to play to his guest, genuinely eager to see what the latter thinks of them. There will be no advance talks!
