Kafana Lab – Gypsy Meets Goulash
With fresh Mokka coffee and strong slivovitz we celebrate the beginning of the new year in the second edition of „Kafana Lab“. We take a deep breath together and use the quiet before the storm to once again appreciate all the feast days of the past and coming weeks: From Hanukkah to Christmas, the Gregorian New Year as well as Orthodox Christmas and the Old New Year according to the Julian calendar.
We share experiences of Jews and Roma and Sinti of the 20th and 21st centuries in Europe, family stories of fleeing across the world and arriving in Berlin. Stories about Hungary, Casablanca, Sydney, Palestine, Serbia and Kosovo – all highly topical and always explosive.
By and with:
Daniel Weltlinger: violin
Giovanni Steinbach: guitar
Santino Bamberger: guitar
Faris Natur: guitar
Richie Müller: double bass
Inspired by the traditional coffee houses of Southeastern Europe, so-called „Kafanas“, which are considered the cradle of modern (civil) society in the Balkans, the experimental event series „Kafana Lab“ negotiates visions of a new society – and a strictly feminist and anti-racist future. The artistic input, accompanying music and freshly brewed Mokka coffee inspire an exchange critical towards structure and power.
