Africa’s entertainment industry is booming. Besides the music sector, film works have a strong impact on the continent’s popular culture, flickering across the screens throughout households, black-owned businesses and shops in African countries and in the African diaspora worldwide.

6 November sees the first episode of our new film series Heroes of the Western Worlds presented by Musa Gahein-Sama bringing these heroes to our screens as well.

Germans can now join in the laughter!

The comedy Aki na Ukwa (2002) is the first part of a series of classics featuring actors

Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Theme, produced by Chukwuka Emelionwu. Two friends, Aki and PawPaw, are trying to ‘hustle themselves out’ of poverty in their Nigerian home village, aspiring for success – and money. The film instantly catapulted both actors to fame, not only in Nigeria, but also in many other English-speaking African countries and across the international diaspora. It was followed by several sequels and other films, in which the duo played the lead parts.

Musa Gahein-Sama was brought up in Sierra Leone, Germany and the U.S. He graduated in international conflict studies, but turned towards music after graduation. In 2017, his first album was released, soon followed by more. Torn between selling-out-to-the-white-people and a desire to have white Germans join in the fun, he operates at the intersection of cultural ambassador, music performer, and mediator in cultural institutions and in daily life, trying to build bridges through music and as consultant, advisor and recently also as curator.
