For centuries, women have been sending their husbands, sons, brothers and fathers off to war, waiting in vain for their return for centuries. For centuries, they have been singing about it. The most beautiful women’s songs of the Balkans tell loud and self-determined stories of waiting, female strength and longing for those who have gone away.
