Sommerlesung am Rad – Rom*nja Literatur
Rom*nja literature at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz for deaf and hearing people. On 15 October with DGS translation.
Closing concert for the staged reading on 15 October: Music by TAYO / Romani musica, Jazz, Soul
Rom*nja and Sinti*zze have been an important part of European cultural and artistic heritage for over 600 years. They have strongly shaped societies. German society is no exception. The readings include some of the literature of European Sinti*zze and Rom*nja writers from the 1930s until now, and will be presented in a chronological and thematic presentation. Selected works will be read in a way that makes the transformations in language through time audible in relation to Sinti*zze and Rom*nja themes. Through a sound installation, the visibility of Rom*nja literature will be enhanced performatively. This will artistically stimulate interpretations and reflections on change, in the sensibility of society, in order to recognise the positive, but also the need for further development, and to practice the generally benevolent changes without coercive mechanisms.
On five evenings, a reading will take place as a pre-programme to the theatre performances, one of which will be in sign language. The series is a project of the Rom*nja in Power theatre collective in cooperation with the Rroma Æther Klub Theatre and the feminist archive RomaniPhen e.V.
The project Summer Reading at the Wheel is part of the initiative DRAUSSENSTADT, funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe and the Foundation for Cultural Education and Cultural Consulting.
