Salon Ma ما

What happens when four artists meet without a predetermined outcome or fixed roles? Evening I of the three-part series by Salon Ma ما opens up a shared space for listening and presence in the Green Salon of the Volksbühne Berlin.

Music, performance, images, film and conversation interweave to create a live situation that emerges in the moment. Everyone brings an idea with them – something they’ve ‘always wanted to try’.

Ma ما means ‘we’: not a fixed we, but an open, tentative one. A we that grows through shared action. An evening between silence and sound, closeness and risk – and the first breath of a collective process.

Guests in this first edition are:

Kaveh Ghaemi // Dance & Performance
Kaveh Ghaemi, born in Tehran in 1984, is a dancer and actor who trained at the Samandarian Theatre Academy and has twice been awarded Best Male Performer at the Fadjr Festival in Iran. He has been living in Berlin since 2011 and has worked with Modjgan Hashemian at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Maxim Gorki Theater, Radialsystem and Theater Thikwa, among others. In addition to his performative work, he teaches dance, realises inclusive projects and develops his own choreographies.

Ava Irandoost // Film, Performance & Music
Ava Irandoost grew up in Tehran and studied architecture at the Berlin University of the Arts before beginning to work artistically in film, performance and music. Her practice combines video, writing and sound to create multi-layered narrative spaces. At its core is the question of inner and outer spaces – where architectural structures and emotional states meet and stories emerge.

Shahrzad Rahmani // Stage & Visual Art
Shahrzad Rahmani, born in Karlsruhe and raised in Tehran, studied architecture at KIT and stage design and scenography at TU Berlin. She has worked with Maxim Gorki Theater, Zentrum für Politische Schönheit and Berliner Herbstsalon, among others, and develops interdisciplinary spatial concepts for theatre, urban contexts and performative formats. In her work, she explores materiality, transformation and the interplay of space, body and time.
