“Dad, what is property?“ „Well, property is theft, amore mio. The world belongs to all creatures.“ „So, do I belong to everyone? Am I as free as a bird, dad?“ „No, you are mine, of course, you belong to me.“

Starting from Pier Paolo Pasolini’s film The Hawks and the Sparrows and the as yet unrealized script Porno-Theo-Colossal, members of the Volksbühne ensemble embark on a journey through the ages, straight back to the Middle Ages and the early days of private property. What went wrong at the time? And how could we start again from there in a different way?

The novelist G.K. Chesterton noted that when Francis of Assisi staged the first nativity play in Greccio, Umbria, in 1223, “it was not God, who came into the world. It was something else – the modern drama.“
