PAGODE 40°

Accompanied by different instruments and with love songs, Brazil in the 1980s experienced the emergence of a different kind of samba at parties on the peripheries of cities popularly known as ‚pagodes‘. Over time, pagode has consolidated itself as a subgenre of samba and an expression of popular black and youth culture that has resisted the appropriation of the white and elitist cultural industry in the country. Pagode 40º is an initiative by Brazilian musicians and producers who want to bring this atmosphere to Berlin by putting women* in a leading role, in contrast to the history of pagode, and thus creating a safe and welcoming space for the Brazilian community and anyone interested in the energy of our scene.
