Kamilo Beach (Am Scham der Zeit)

Von Enis Maci und Pascal Richmann

Hawaii, 2018. A North-Korean bomb is racing towards the archipelago. Or maybe it isn’t. It does not make any difference so long as the sirens are screeching. There is the same message on every screen and display: SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER.

On the shores of Kamilo Beach the current has been washing up everything that is there since times immemorial. It’s the world ’s most ancient junkyard. Even on this January 13th, bonfires are smoldering, and plastics and pebbles are melting into rocks.

While Honolulu’s golfers are about to upload their last words, children are crawling into the sewers. Hundreds of thousands of people are convinced they will be dead in a few minutes. Hundreds of thousands believe it’s an emergency, although it’s a rehearsal, really. When the sun sets over the pacific, there are only two victims to count: BRANDON and BETTINA.

Who are they? Why did they have to die? And what on earth is leaking from the empty centre?

EXERCISE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
