guy working at a pool

Von Damian Rebgetz

In guy working at a pool, Damian Rebgetz narrates a method acting experiment of performing the role of lifeguard at a local pool. The musical monologue explores cultural-historical swimming practices in the meeting of different bodies, desires and aspirations at the public pool as the performer swims against the currents of fiction and reality, autobiography and acting.

He definitely should have known better. Like the kids that start playing around the pool and end up running along the edge and throwing each other in the water until they get banned from further entry. Later, he would realise you have to take control of a situation before it gets out of hand and someone gets hurt. Because even though water is beautiful in the way it dances with light, and makes you feel weightless, it’s also deadly.

guy working at a pool was 2023 part of the series 100 Neue Worte at the Literaturforum im Brecht-Haus and was performed as part of Schwimmcity ‒ ein Bad für alle at the Impulse Festival 2024. Rebgetz adapts the solo work now for the Videothek am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. The performance will be in German and in English with subtitles.
