Exit Void | KMRU

The sound collective EXIT VOID emerged from a collaborative project for a video installation soundtrack. It evolved into a regular formation that uses electronic and acoustic instruments equally. Compositional structures alternate with open and improvised parts. Their working method draws on ensemble concepts collectively tried and tested since the era of minimalism, with repetition, layering and slowly progressing transitions as formative principles, combined with electronic sound research and contemporary improvisation practices. What matters is responsive interaction among group members rather than solo expositions – the form emerges in the process.

The band members are from different, clearly profiled backgrounds:

Manfred Engelmayr (Bulbul / guitar) has been a key figure in Austria’s noise and avant-rock scene for many years.

Katrin Euller (Rent / electronics) creates dark ambient landscapes and harsh noise worlds, working in various constellations within the field of electronic music and media art.

Alex Kranabetter (Drank / trumpet, electronics) pushes beyond the boundaries of conventional trumpet playing, creating music between free improvisation and electroacoustic sound art.

Wolfgang Lehmann (Voyage Futur / guitar, electronics) works as a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer in projects spanning ambient, noise, pop, and electronic music.

Anja Plaschg (Soap&Skin / voice, electronics) works internationally under the name Soap&Skin. Her albums and film scores combine reduced arrangements, electronic density, and a distinctive vocal presence.

David Reumüller (Reflector / drums, electronics) works interdisciplinarily at the intersection of music and visual art, musically he moves between experimental metal, soundscapes, and noise.

KMRU (Joseph Kamaru) is a sound artist born in Nairobi and based in Berlin, who specializes in field recording, experimental composition, installation and performance. In his works he explores augmented listening practices, ecologies and sonic memories that transcend conventional auditory frameworks. Performing internationally, his work was exhibited at Berlin Atonal, CTM Festival, Barbican Centre, Ars Electronica and Venice Architecture Biennale. His music is released on labels such as Editions Mego, Touch and Subtext. His new album Kin released in February 2026.
