Everything is Content
Die Veranstaltung findet in englischer Sprache statt.
300 slides, 10 tracks, 1 good idea. Igor Simic, Serbian-American artist, begins with a provocative premise: that everything is content. Everything can coexist undisturbed — Mickey Mouse and Joan d’Arc, Donald Trump and John Berger, Samuel Beckett and Elon Musk.
A graduate at the Columbia University in film and philosophy, Simic engages in his work with the prophecy of the „death of cinema“, as announced by many — and notably Jean-Luc Godard. Yet, rather than surrendering to nostalgia for an irrecoverable past, he prefers to decode the very present. He does not turn away from the infinite stream of content that populates our platformized life, but there he points his finger and transforms this uneven mass into art. Acknowledging the flatness of our digital existences, Simic uses the surface —the limited space of the 300 slides — to navigate across media formats, being it a music track, a film, a photo, a book, a video game.
„Simic is the kind of artist that can peer deeply into the hierarchy of values with a critical eye and intervene in the cultural matrix of times past and present. These are the methods that sustain his work and crystalize his vision. And like a young Joan, maybe even like a young Disney, he is really just getting started.“ – Greg De Cuir Jr.
