BPM (Batida dos Povos Marginalizados) – Kuduro in Luanda und Bahia

The unofficial landmark of Angola’s capital, Luanda, is the blue-and-white minibus taxis known as Candongueiros. The taxi strike in July 2025 revealed how public life in Luanda grinds to a halt when the Candongueiros stop running. Toyota buses transport people from informal neighbourhoods across the city to their workplaces and schools, but they also play a fundamental role in distributing popular music — particularly the electronic dance genre Kuduro. In BPM (batida dos povos marginalizados) – Kuduro in Luanda and Bahia, Sacerdot Kemuntu Ko and Stefanie Alisch explore the Candongueiros and Kuduro through conversations, visual documents, DJ sets, and rap, in dialogue with the video poetry of Fernando Carlos.
