Even 35 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, our brothers and sisters who were socialised in the former FRG still puzzle us. What made them the way they are? Why do they persist in voting for the same old, familiar parties? Why do they cling to a social system whose shortcomings are omnipresent? Where does their enthusiasm for military technology and their lack of understanding for other cultures, for foreign tribes, for Thuringians, Saxons or Brandenburgers come from?
