THIS IS NOT A BOOK LAUNCH – THIS IS NOT A HAPPENING – THIS IS NOT A CONCERT – THIS IS A BOOK LAUNCH CONCERT BY THOMAS KÖCK AND THE LEGENDARY 21 DOWNBEAT BAND
The statues have been toppled, the colonies dissolved, the servants have fled, there are stoats in the ballroom, roots have gripped the stairway, the palaces are in ruins, capitalism smokes one last cigarette, bloodless, the Anthropocene coughs in consternation and amidst all of this someone is whispering: but I’ve loved you.
The text eure paläste sind leer (all we ever wanted), first released at Münchner Kammerspiele, invited to Autor*innentheatertage at DT Berlin, and about to be rewritten as an opera, is a powerful, melancholy chant oscillating between the Brazilian jungle, closed clubs, the American opioid crisis, self-exploitation, crashing slaughterhouses, empty theatres, powerless seers in vast, abandoned palaces, and the excessive human quest for love and power, redemption and transcendence. Köck will present a book publication of the text at Roter Salon of the Volksbühne, accompanied by the legendary 21 Downbeat Band of Rambazamba Theater.
