Do you believe the government’s measures during the Corona pandemic were rather excessive? Do you ask yourself: Why vote, if I can’t change anything anyway? Do you think this ‘gendering business’ is silly? Do you wonder where the „quality“ as in “quality journalism” has got to? And why is there always so much talking of Europe? What kind of citizen do you see yourself as: a citizen of the Reich? a citizen of the Federal Republic? a fellow German citizen? … (fill in the gap)

How much of ‘against’ is radical and how much of ‘for’ is conformist? The Citizen Trilogy by the authors Annalena and Konstantin Küspert explores these questions in search of the “we” – as in “Wir sind das Volk/ We are the people”. They set out to roam the streets and club houses and living rooms to listen and present a panorama of national identities and political developments in Germany. Because: I’m still actually allowed to say that, am I not?

The premiere of the three-part book contains the pieces Der Reichsbürger, Der Bundesbürger and Die Mitbürger – provocative, outrageous and quite democratic.
