Salon Mã ما – III – What Is Your “We”?

What emerges when four artists meet without a finished result, without fixed roles?
The final evening of the three-part series Salon Mã ما  condenses into dialogue, tension, and collective intensity. Different impulses collide; frictions and decisions are put to the test.

Music, performance, and conversation intertwine into a live situation that unfolds in the moment. Each person brings an idea — something that has “always wanted to be tried out.”

ما means “we”: not a fixed we, but an open, searching one. A we that grows through doing things together.

If you have a contribution to “What is your ‘We’?”, send us your vision. It can be anything and everything: text, movement, film, music, image… we are opening a space for your voices. Here is a link to our open call: wp.volksbuehne.berlin/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Open-Call-Salon-Ma-ما-ENG.jpg

The conclusion of the third and final edition of Salon Mã ما is formed by these voices that responded to our open call on the question “What is your ‘We’?”

Guests in this third edition are:

Patrick Khatami // studied acting at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts from 1997 to 2001. Following that, he held engagements at the Heidelberg City Theater, the Darmstadt State Theater, the Oberhausen Theater, and the Dresden State Theater. Starting in 2012, he appeared in several productions of the series Lila Risiko Schachmatt, with guest performances in Hebron and the West Bank at the Freedom Theater in Jenin. Since 2017, he has been closely collaborating with post theater, where he works as a co-author and performer—with appearances at Theater Rampe Stuttgart, the TD Berlin, and Dock 11 in a dance production by Ukrainian choreographer Maria Pyatkova. In 2022, under the direction of Salome Dastmalchi, he performed in the stage adaptation of Identitti by Mithu Sanyal at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. In addition to his stage work, Patrick Khatami has appeared as a voice actor (including for Studio Hamburg) and in various television productions such as Tatort and the ZDF series Der Kriminalist, as well as in feature films such as Wir schaffen das schon (directed by Andreas Arnstedt) and in the last three films by director Klaus Lemke.

Saba Alizadeh // is one of the defining voices of contemporary Iranian music and, as a kamancheh virtuoso, blends néo-musique concrète with electroacoustic and mixed-media composition. His works oscillate between personal intimacy and political urgency, creating dense, cinematic soundscapes. He is the founder of the Tehran-based platform “Noise Works” for experimental music and is also exhibited internationally as a photographer.

Salome Dastmalchi // was born in Berlin and studied acting at the Bern University of the Arts from 2002 to 2006. In 2010, she played Katarina in a Basel production of Dämonen, appeared in Das blaue, blaue Meer at the Heimathafen Neukölln and in Die Fozen at Ballhaus Ost. She also made her debut as a writer and director at HAU 3 with Mein Herz ist voller Hass – und das liebe ich. In 2013, she developed SCHIZO! at the Ballhaus Naunynstraße with the “akademie der autodidakten,” which was nominated for the “Theatertreffen der Jugend 2013.” In 2016–2017, Salome Dastmalchi gave regular readings for “Prosa der Verhältnisse” at Maxim Gorki Theater. Since 2012, she has been leading acting workshops, including in collaboration with the Schaubühne and the Berliner Ensemble, and also works as a voice actress.  In April 2022, Salome Dastmalchi directed Identitti by Mithu Sanyal for the Staatstheater Darmstadt, earning her a nomination as an emerging artist in the 2022 edition of “Theater heute”. This was followed by her direction of the world premiere of Die Nacht so groß wie wir by Sarah Jäger at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.

And guests from the open call with their contributions.
