Psychic Liberation
Psychic Liberation (PL) is a label founded in 2013, originally ran with Miguel Alvariño titled Primitive Languages as a cassette and record store project in New York City. It is now operated solo by Nick Klein since 2019 under the working title Psychic Liberation out of the EU. The eponymous concert series in the Red Salon takes place with changing guests.
BRAK are a noisy trio exploring sonic dissonances and cross-genre intricacies, navigating between no wave, noise and punk. Expert at dashing out cascades of sound accelerating, rotting, and falling apart. Debut LP Friction is out on Psychic Liberation as of 2024.
Nic Krog is a music and sound artist blending bass-heavy club music, subversive sound art, and spoken word. Their diaristic work explores mental processes and personal history, from growing up queer in small-town Denmark to life as an introvert in Berlin. Their debut album, Reproaching the Absurd (Opal Tapes, 2021), confronted struggles with depression, while the upcoming audio play Perfect Pattern (Psychic Liberation) delves into obsessive traits post-recovery. Expanding their sound, the new work draws on 20th-century experimental composition, ’90s queer house music, and cinematic storytelling.
Richie Culver is a London-based multidisciplinary artist working across painting, music, performance, and photography. His practice critically examines themes of labor, identity, and mental health, often deconstructing its own methods. Culver’s work, influenced by artists like Kippenberger and Wool, subverts traditional painting with sardonic text and self-referential gestures. His music incorporates experimental synthesis and spoken word, with his 2024 album Hostile Environments exploring ambient atmospherics.
