During a holiday on the Canary Isle of La Gomera, which she spends writing and observing nature, the author is asked to look after a dog. Within no time, the animal has taken control of her days and her perceptions. A time-transcending dialogue with all the animals of her life ensues. The result is a reflection on humankind and nature, and on fear, vulnerability and grief, which, once overcome, leads to a hymn of life. In flashbacks, memories and brief philosophical surveys, the poetic fabric of the text invokes a time in which animals, unlike humans, represent pure presence.
