On a stroll through Vienna’s 9th district, the protagonist of Patrick Holzapfel’s debut novel goes astray as he begins to follow the meandering movements of a homeless person clad in ermine. Then he finds himself sitting on a park bench made of twenty wooden slats, and time seems to stop, as a different map of the city is gradually unfolding. „The longer you sit here, the more you’ll learn about this bench. At the same time, you also learn something about the people sitting on benches.“
