Moderated by the political journalist Robert Misik, the philosopher Rahel Jaeggi discusses the basic hypothesis of her new book with sociologist Oliver Nachtwey, asking whether it is true that regressive tendencies can be put down to experiences of powerlessness in the face of increasingly complex social transformations, as Nachtwey suggests in his latest book Gekränkte Freiheit/ Offended Freedom, co-authored with Carolin Amlinger. What if we looked at progress, as Jaeggi proposes, not as a leader to (predefined) goals, but as an ongoing process of emancipation that is never completed– in what way would that change the political paradigm and political thinking?
An event organised in cooperation with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Institute of Philosophy. Admission is free.
