Parole Text:Buch

It’s a coming-of-age story during the last months of the GDR, capturing a subculture of young men, outsiders and intellectuals in the language of the time, including many drawings depicting this now-vanished world. The narrator, who’s training to become a painter, is suffocating in his middlebrow parental home in Pankow. He wants to belong to the Prenzlauer Berg bohemia who dwell in the decaying buildings around the area. Trying to find his own place in these times of upheaval, he encounters oddballs and creative minds – Edmund, the artist, the beautiful young mother Susanne and the punk musician Gurke, in whose basement apartment he finds a new home. When Gurke suddenly disappears, reality crashes in on their lives. Gurke has been having trouble with the powers that be. And then Susanne disappears too, when love has only just blossomed …
