Digitization has been changing the world. Images and pictures have seen an enormous increase in importance. Smartphone technology allows to create them faster, more flexibly and more expertly than ever before. And thanks to social media and networks, images are shared and distributed indefinitely. Yet there has been a lack of suitable criteria for classifying and analysing digital image culture. The series Digitale Bildkulturen focuses on key digital image phenomena, engages in and sparks critical debates, provides competent summaries and explanations, and offers some initial hypotheses.
