Parole Text:Buch

In 1915, the sociologist Émile Durkheim published his last book, which has lost none of its explosive power and topicality. An ostracised text exploring Germany, the Germans and the origins of the First World War, it uncompromisingly rejects nationalism and challenges the reader to reflect on the concepts of sovereignty, democracy and freedom. Marie Rotkopf invites us to rediscover this brilliant text on which she elaborates in her own passionately written essay that comes with the book, asking why the text has seen such a poor reception despite the fact that it is a shockingly excellent book: a visionary work that will take on a new significance in light of the current rearmament policies in Germany.

Marie Rotkopf, born in Paris in 1975, is an author, poet and cultural critic.
Her works include Antiromantisches Manifest (Nautilus, 2017), Fetzen. Für eine Philosophie der Entschleierung (with Marcus Steinweg, Matthes & Seitz, 2022) or Rejected – Designs for the European Flag (Wirklichkeit Books, 2020).
She has lived in Germany for several years in order to be able to reflect on what Europe has become. Rotkopf is concerned with the construction and communication of power. She is interested in the rewriting of history and the poetry of the world.
