Parole Text:Buch

More than 30 years have passed since the fall of the Berlin wall and reunification. The months that followed the fall were the most defining moment of their lives for many citizens of the GDR. The country in which they had lived, worked and loved, was about to evaporate little by little. The future seemed uncertain in many respects, and it was unclear which role and place destiny held in store for each and every one of them. The letters compiled in this book were written between February 1989 and 2 October 1990, the day the GDR ceased to exist. They are individual, intimate testimonies of an eventful turning point in history, written by friends and relatives of Ingrun Spazier, recipient of the letters and now editor of this collection – when she moved from East Berlin to Hamburg in 1988 to marry her husband. The letters were never intended to be published, but after so many decades they are ranking as valuable historic documents describing the hopes, fears and future expectations of six individuals who went through this radical change and times of upheaval.
