Kafana Lab – Woman* Life Freedom
Inspired by the traditional coffee houses of South-Eastern Europe, so-called “Kafanas”, which are considered the cradle of modern (civil) society in the Balkans, the experimental event series „Kafana Lab“ negotiates visions of a new society – and a strictly feminist and anti-racist future. The artistic input, accompanying music and freshly brewed mocha coffee inspire an exchange which is critical towards the power structures we live in.
The first Kafana Lab honours the courageous, fearless fighters for women, freedom and life in Iran and stands in solidarity with the feminist revolutionary movement against the murderous Iranian regime which originated from the Kurdish-feminist movement.
Anna Castillo Ensemble will present Flamenco from its roots. In a typical Tablao format the Flamenco group will demonstrate the beauty of feminine power through Flamenco, by sharing different rhythmical and regional Flamenco styles (Palos) to the audience. The Flamenco ensemble will bring us in a unique sensational experience for ears and eyes.
The joint discussion about the situation in Iran and the possibilities to support the revolution and the protesting people in Iran is accompanied by the Balakouk Band (Ambient, Oriental):
Ardavan Hatami: guitar, vocal, percussion, wind instruments
Arash Khodayari: musical saw instrument, harmonica, just harp, trumpet
Izumi Yamamata: piano, synthesizer
During the talks and music, a silent protest performance by artist and musician Karma Pakravan takes place. In it, he remembers Khodanoor Lajai, who was shot by state forces during a massacre in Zahedan, Iran, on 30 September 2022 and then tied to a flagpole until he died without help or treatment.
