Gefühle am Ende der Welt
FUN means – following Adorno – cheating on luck in organised ways. Fun deludes us into thinking that it‘s a break from everyday routines when it is only perhaps the ecstasy of them all. The imperative of entertainment feeds a huge industry discrediting a deeper analysis of pain and suffering in the world, and making necessary criticism difficult. But let’s not kid ourselves – fun in the form of nonsense, absurdity and light entertainment might be the only way to escape the expectations and constraints of capitalism now and again. Layering our constant efforts and struggles, it is an invitation to not take things so seriously. Moreover, it is open to question whether the things we consider most important would continue to exist without a little help from Fun. The family, philosophy, revolutions all depend on laughter if they were to survive.
