Europe and Germany in particular are in the throes of warfare. Peacemaking is now hardly an issue. And even less so: love. The media theorist Friedrich Kittler saw not just contrasts here, but also connections: “The opposite of war is love, not peace,” he stated almost 20 years ago on a trip to Crimea.
Based on this assumption, we will take a look at the present developments together with prominent thinkers and activists. In a time of rampant re-armament and militarisation of all areas of society – and indeed of our mindsets – peace does not seem to be an option. At the same time, fascism is making a comeback to the streets of Europe, while refugees are drowning on the huge graveyard called the Mediterranean. What has happened to love? Ridiculous as it may sound, but isn’t love is precisely that which is missing in our world of war without peace?
Guests are Boris Buden (philosopher); Morana Miljanović (ship captain, sea rescuer and artist); Srećko Horvat (author of Radikalität der Liebe); Oxana Timoveeva, (philosopher and member of the art collective Chto Delat); Sebastian Kaiser (host and moderator)
