Germany Your Children – Continuities of Right-Wing Violence

17th – 23rd September 2022, every day from 18:00 to 20:00, ROMSKI TRUCK

Days of right-wing terror, racially charged press reports, daily deportations and finally a tightening of the asylum law in 1993 – this was the situation for (former) contract and guest workers and refugees in reunified Germany in the 1990s. And to this day, racist regulations continue to shape the everyday lives of people seeking protection from persecution and violence in Germany: Chain tolerations and „voluntary departures,“ work bans, compulsory residence, and restricted access to (social) human rights are part of the exclusionary system.

The event series and exhibition “Germany Your Children – Continuities of Right-Wing Violence” commemorate the 30th and 31st anniversaries of the pogroms of Rostock-Lichtenhagen (22nd – 26th August 1992) and Hoyerswerda (17th – 23rd September 1991) and draw a line to the current treatment of people on the run.

In a film, a radio play, a lecture and in discussions, those affected – former contract workers from Mozambique and Vietnam as well as Roma – and activists for the rights of people on the run from Sea Watch, from Afghan and Syrian associations – have their say.

The exhibition in the “Romski Truck” – which was artistically designed by Damian James Le Bas under the name “Capitan Django Sastipe” 2020 especially for the 2nd Roma Biennale and which will open its tailgate in front of the Grüner Salon daily between 6 and 8 p.m. from 17th to 23rd September – sheds light on the continuities of right-wing terror against refugees and migrants, especially from the perspective of Roma living in Germany.
