Common Tongue II | International Roma Theaterfestival | Wurzeln schlagen - Erinnerung tragen | Romplay
Location: Roma & Sinti Memorial
The Romplay Theatre Ensemble presents a moving performance in memory of the murdered Sinti and Roma of Europe. Twelve ensemble members stand in a semicircle around a map of Germany made of soil. In a poetic and ritualistic form, they recite lines such as: “This German soil has drunk Roma blood,” “This German soil has carried Roma tears,” and “This soil lives.” Each voice becomes an echo of remembrance.
As the performance unfolds, the participants symbolically plant roots into the earth, a gesture that stands for survival, hope, and belonging. Accompanied by the music of violinist Roméo Franz and the contemporary dance of Niko Bajramović, the scene transforms into a powerful and silent image: Roma taking root in Germany, on a soil that carries history and does not forget.
