Modular synth virtuoso Caterina Barbieri will present her new album Spirit Exit as audio-visual live performance in her first Berlin show.

Post-humanist theories, cyberculture and the mystique of feminist poetry are inspirations for the composer’s most impressive album to date. Produced during a three-month isolation period due to the pandemic at her studio in Milano, references are ranging from female trailblazers who in their time had to work in isolation just like herself, such as.St. Teresa D’Avila, Rosi Braidotti  and Emily Dickinson. The reasons for isolation were as varied as their works – censorship, oppression, psychological conditions, political persecution. Barbieri is interested in how progressive and visionary works of art can be created under these circumstances, and asks what that means for the transcendental power of music. The live show Spirit Exit explores the field of relationships between humanity and technology. In challenging times between isolation and deep anxieties, music serves as a social amplifier which not only travels faster than the contexts out of which it was created, but also creates new connections and links.
