Investigating themes of identity, extravaganza and new means of self-expression, Bodybuilders is a photographic project made by Alien documenting 30 of the most interesting performers of the UK.

On a crossroad between visual and performing arts, gender studies, activism and critical reflection, the project contributes to representation and positive affirmation, witnessing alternative ways of expressing oneself.

Bodies are built, distorted and transformed, cis women, trans and non-binary people are included as a reflection on binarism and systemic male domination.

Helen Hester, co-author of The Xenofeminist Manifesto and Inferno’s London queer night founder Lewis G. Burton are the two writers of the introductory texts.

The event is curated by Era Studio, a Berlin-based creative agency focused on events, content, creative direction and graphic design with a personal eye and focus on inclusivity and independent projects.
