Staying visible where others want to erase you. In times when trans*, queer and racialised bodies are once again becoming a projection surface for political fear fantasies, visibility is a survival strategy. And a form of power. BARE Lebenswelten #1: IDAHOBIT trifft Roma Resistance Day Edition brings together voices, messages, texts and perspectives of Rom*nja who are queer, trans, non-binary or simply unclassifiable.
This first edition of Lebenswelten is loud – not despite but because of the violence and erasure (of any kind) that many experience: in the family, in the housing market, in the asylum system, in the media,in academia, in arts and in the healthcare system.
We show what is often ignored: That Queer Roma live and fight. And love – as memory and future. That the narrative that Roma* are “traditionally” queer-hostile is not only colonial, but dangerous. This event is also a space of care and collective resistance – of all those who are not invited in the room but stubbornly keep going against all odds!
