Summer holidays and pre-sales for August and September

The theatre is closed for the summer holidays through August 19th. Visitors' services will already be open on August 10th and may be reached by email or phone Mon-Sat from 11am to 6pm. Please keep in mind that the box office will remain closed to the public due to the measures in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Ticket sales and reservations

We are closed for the summer holidays through August 19th. Pre-sales for all events in August and September will begin in our online shop on August 10th at 11am. To reserve tickets please contact visitors' services by email or phone (Mon-Fri 11am - 6 pm).

Please bear in mind that, due to limited venue capacity and the current health regulations, a maximum of 2 tickets may be purchased or reserved. According to the current coronavirus preventative measures, visitors who may sit together in a two-seat pair include: married couples or those in a civil union, members of the same household, and people with custody or visitation rights.

Personal information and ID requirements

In order to facilitate coronavirus contact tracing in the event that a SARS-CoV-2 infection should appear around the time of your Volksbühne Berlin visit, we're keeping a list of all visitors and ask that you provide the following personal information when you buy a ticket:

  • First and last name
  • Full address
  • Phone number
  • Email address

The applicable legislation is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. c DS-GVO (General Data Protection Regulation) in connection with § 2 Abs. 1 Nr. 8, Abs. 2 of the Verordnung über erforderliche Maßnahmen zur Eindämmung der Ausbreitung des neuartigen Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in Berlin (SARS-CoV-2 Infection Protection Ordinance).

Your information will only be used for contact tracing and not be processed for any other use, such as marketing or newsletters, for example. Your information will only be passed on to the relevant health authorities in the event of a possibility of infection connected to your visit to the theatre. The only Volksbühne employee who has access to your information is: Matthias Schulz, box office and visitors' services manager.

Your information will be deleted four weeks after your visit. Everyone affected by this data processing has the right to data protection as specified in the GDPR. Further information about this can be found in our data protection declaration.

You are not required to provide your information, however we cannot let you enter the theatre without gathering your contact information. On the evening of the performance itself all visitors are required to bring identification with them.

Performances cancelled due to the Covid-19 preventative measures

The Volksbühne's regular programming was suspended through July 31st, 2020, due to the closures ordered by the Berlin Senate.

Ticket refunds

Customers who booked their tickets through a ticket agency (like Eventim) should contact the agency directly. Customers that booked their tickets through a theatre club (such as TheaterGemeinde, Theaterclub, KulturVolk), don't have to do anything – these tickets will be cancelled automatically.

Customers who purchased their tickets from us have the following options:

  • Voucher: You'll receive a voucher for the value of the tickets purchased, which can be used through December 31st 2023.
  • Donation: If you'd like to waive your refund, you'll help us minimise our financial losses. Our accounting department would be happy to provide you with a donation receipt for the amount of any non-refunded tickets.
  • Refund: You can return your tickets for free and receive the entire purchase price as a refund.

In order to process your refund, we need the following information:

  • Surname, First Name

  • Customer number

  • Order number

  • For refunds to a credit cards: the complete credit card number and expiration date

  • For refunds to a PayPal account: the e-mail address associated with the account.

We ask for your patience in this unusual situation for both the refund and transfer process. We will process refunds in the order of scheduled performance dates. We request that you avoid contacting us by phone if possible – that helps us process your refund more rapidly as well.

For customers that purchased their tickets at the box office without providing their contact information: Please send us the original tickets by post (Volksbühne Berlin, Besucherservice, Linienstraße 227, 10178 Berlin), or take photographs of the tickets and send the photos and your contact details by email to besucherservice@volksbühne-berlin.de.

Advance ticket sales

Advance ticket sales generally begin on the first working day of every month for the coming month. Tickets can be purchased at the Volksbühne box office and at all CTS Eventim affiliated advance ticket sale locations.

Advance sales for special events are preferred in exceptional cases.

Payment

You can pay for your reserved tickets at our box office in cash and using EC debit cards or credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex). Online payments can be made with credit cards and PayPal.

Discounts

Reduced tickets for 9 € are available from presale start upon presentation of the proper documentation for pupils, students, trainees, FSJs and recipients of Unemployment Benefits I. Special discounts for holders of the Tanzcard (Berlin Dance Card) and Berlin artists with a BKK membership. Berlinpass holders and refugees can purchase tickets for 3 € from the evening box office for repertoire performances upon presentation of the proper documentation and depending on availability.

Volksbühne card

The Volksbühne card can be purchased for 25 euros at the box office. Holders receive a 25% discount on 10 tickets for repertoire events of their choice. In addition, the official ticket presale for holders of the Volksbühne card begins a day earlier than usual.

Gift certificates

Share the joy with friends and family by giving them a Volksbühne gift certificate (valid for three years from purchase date). Gift certificates can be purchased at our box office, on our homepage in the webshop, or via our visitor service by calling +49 (0)30 2406 5777 or by emailing us at besucherservice@volksbuehne-berlin.de.

Bar & café

One hour prior to the performance and during intermission, you can enjoy snacks and drinks in the bars and the Parkett-Café.

Cloakroom

The Volksbühne Berlin operates a complimentary cloakroom service.

Accessibility for people with disabilities

The Volksbühne’s lower foyer and Großer Saal (main hall) are wheelchair accessible via the main entrance. For structural reasons, the (upper) Sternfoyer, as well as the Roter Salon, Grüner Salon, the 3rd floor and the rehearsal stage, are not wheelchair accessible. The Volksbühne Berlin has wheelchair seating only in the Großer Saal (main hall). People accompanying visitors with disabilities (and with the “B” stamp in the official ID card) enjoy free admission.
