From 21-22 March Volksbühne is presenting Peter Handke’s Immer noch Sturm (Storm Still), directed by Dimiter Gotscheff and premiered in 2011 at the Salzburger Festspiele as a co-production with the Thalia Theater Hamburg. Having garnered the Nestroy Preis, the International Ibsen Award and the Mülheimer Dramatikerpreis for Peter Handke and won Jens Harzer his second nod from theater heute for actor of the year in 2011, this play will celebrate its closing night at the Volksbühne. In addition to Heiner Müller’s Die Hamletmaschine at the Deutsches Theater, it’s one of the last productions directed by Dimiter Gotscheff, who died in 2013, that’s still being performed.

Immer noch Sturm is a grand hymn to life. It is a trip between times, dreams and worlds. Peter Handke takes us from the Europe of the last century to the present, recounting the history of his Slovenian ancestors. Inspired by posthumous letters, oral traditions and images in his own recollections, he follows the traces of his memory: “It's not me that doesn't leave you alone. It doesn't leave me alone, never alone. You do not leave me alone”.

“An oratorio-like experience. Grand contemporary theatre and the stuff of Max Reinhardt’s dreams.” (Der Standard)
