World premiere on 17 January: The installation performance Coming Society by Susanne Kennedy and Markus Selg

Following her previous Volksbühne premieres Women in Trouble and The Suicide Sisters, Susanne Kennedy is now premiering her latest work, Coming Society, an installation performance created and produced together with visual artist Markus Selg.

Coming Society is an attempt to see the future in the form of a community. Spectators embark on a journey through time that leads into a zone in which one can move freely. In this landscape there’s a group of men and women – healers, hosts, stalkers and shamans, embodied by Suzan Boogaerdt, Ixchel Mendoza Hernandez, Jone San Martin, Dieter Rita Scholl, Kate Strong, Bianca van der Schoot, Ingmar Thilo, Frank Willens and Thomas Wodianka. They accompany the audience on this rite of passage, leading them into a sphere in which nature, technology and spirituality combine. The audience becomes actors and takes part in a game of evolution that’s preparing the future society.

- So you are an optimist?
- Life is only going to get richer. I’m looking forward to it.
- The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born.

Is there an inner evolution of man? Is there a chance for self-development, for a transcendence of the subject? With his “Übermensch” concept, the idea of man as something in need of overcoming, Nietzsche left us with an uncomfortable question: what have you all done to overcome it?
