The Volksbühne’s programme for January, with information on all premieres and events, is available for download here.

Following her previous Volksbühne premieres Women in Trouble and The Suicide Sisters, Susanne Kennedy is presenting the world premiere of Coming Society – an installation performance created and produced together with visual artist Markus Selg – on the main stage on 17 January. Coming Society is an attempt to see the future in the form of a community. Spectators embark on a journey through time that leads into a zone in which one can move freely, encountering a group of healers, hosts, stalkers and shamans, embodied by Suzan Boogaerdt, Bianca van der Schoot, Frank Willens and Thomas Wodianka, among others.

On the 3. Stock stage, Anita Vulesica’s production of Moby Dick is celebrating its premiere on 8 January: Captain Ahab is plotting revenge. On board the Pequod, his only aim is to kill Moby Dick. What does the legendary whale stand for? The director and five young actresses conquer Herman Melville’s adventure novel as the epitome of masculine exercising of power.

The following guest performances will be presented at the Volksbühne: Der Auftrag by Heiner Müller on 22 and 23 January (The Mission, Schauspiel Hannover; directors: Tom Kühnel, Jürgen Kuttner), Unterwerfung by Michel Houellebecq on 30 and 31 January (Submission, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg; director: Karin Beier) as well as Unendlicher Spaß by David Foster Wallace on 2 and 3 February (Infinite Jest, produced by Thorsten Lensing; director: Thorsten Lensing).

From the repertory on the main stage this month: Volksverräter!! (Traitor of the people!!) (4.1.+5.2.), Haußmanns Staatssicherheitstheater (Haußmann’s State Security Theatre) (5.1.+24.1.), Das 1. Evangelium (The First Gospel) (6.1.) as well as Three Billion Sisters (13.1.)
