Boris Charmatz's enfant with a group of Berlin children at the Volksbühne from June 21

French choreographer Boris Charmatz and the Musée de la danse are presenting a new production of the dance piece enfant (Child) with a group of children from Berlin for the first time in the Volksbühne on 21 June, and you are cordially invited.

Charmatz caused a stir on the international stage with the world premiere of enfant back in 2011. The piece begins with an eerie machine ballett and ends in a nearly exuberant state. Children run, twitch, sing, jump and riot. Raucous at times, silent at others, enfant is one of the most intense and moving dance performances of recent years, forcing our attention onto our relation to the nature of children.

The 15 children from Berlin are between six and 10 years old. Since the beginning of February, they’ve been rehearsing the piece on the Volksbühne’s rehearsal stage in Berlin-Rummelsburg. Last week the children, and the grown-up dancers, took to the main stage on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz for the first time. After the premiere, this new version of enfant with the Berlin cast will travel to Athens (July) and Charleroi (November) and return to the Volksbühne for further performances.
