Yael Bartana's What if Women Ruled the World? on 6 and 7 June with new experts

Following successful performances in April, the Volksbühne presents additional performances of Yael Bartana’s What if Women Ruled the World? with new experts.

Experts participating on 6 June: Christina von Braun, author, filmmaker and professor at the Institute for Cultural Studies at the Humboldt University (Berlin); Ulrike von Pilar, long-term CEO of the German division of the Doctors without Borders humanitarian organisation (Berlin); Naila Bozo, editor of the Alliance for Kurdish Rights (Kopenhagen); Irena Sabic, expert on immigration and asylum law (London); as well as Mai Zeidani, social scientist and activist (Berlin).

Experts participating on 7 June: Xanthe Hall from IPPNW-International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (Berlin); Bana Gora, director of the Muslim Women´s Council (Bradford, UK); Antke Engel, director of the Institute for Queer Theory (Berlin); Reem Fadda, curator (Ramallah); Illa Ben-Porat, cultural studies scholar at Ben-Gurion University (Tel Aviv).

Inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s satire Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), Yael Bartana brings actresses together with different, internationally renowned experts for every performance. In the cabinet of a country with a pacifist constitution and a state disarmament programme, the president and her ministers face a dilemma. Another country is breaking a joint international agreement by announcing an increase in its nuclear stockpiles. Intertwining fiction and reality, satire and serious political experiment, together they attempt to solve one of today’s pressing global problems and thereby keep the Doomsday Clock from reaching midnight.
