The Volksbühne's programme for June and July 2018

The Volksbühne Berlin’s June/July programme with details about all premieres and other events can be downloaded here.

On 21 June, French choreographer and dancer Boris Charmatz presents a new production of his dance piece enfant with a group of children from Berlin on the Volksbühne main stage. The world premiere of enfant caused a stir on the international stage back in 2011. The piece begins with an eerie machine ballett and ends in a nearly exuberant state. Children run, twitch, sing, jump and riot. And thereby catapult themselves out of a dreadfully beautiful experiment.

In MENGE, director, choreographer and artist Gisèle Vienne reflects on the forms and meaning of violence for modern societies. She brings a group of young people together for a DJ-set by Peter Rehberg, ensconced in 21st-century Europe. Guest performance from 13-15 June.

On 27 June, Mette Ingvartsen presents her piece 7 Pleasures, in which 12 performers flow into each other in one long, sensual movement. Pleasure becomes a question of perception and the political: how can one invent new forms of gratification that diverge from the choreography of everyday life? How can this potential be used to get around the common cliches of nakedness and sexuality?

Also coming up in June: P14’s premiere Ich steh schon derbe lang auf dich (I’ve Been into You a Real Long Time); the world premiere of Der Klang der Familie (The Sound of Family) by Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff in the Grüner Salon; the Torstraßen Festival Super Sunday with Alex Cameron, among others; an exhibition in the Volksbühne Pavillon as part of the 10th Berlin Biennale; the discussion event Im Namen der Anklage with Carla Del Ponte and Joschka Fischer; and the The Pool record launch concert with Jazzanova.

The Volksbühne will present the following for the last time: Liberté by Albert Serra (2 June), Not I / Footfalls / Eh, Joe by Samuel Beckett (16 June – Theatertag), as well as the P14 productions Betrunken am Highway (Drunk on the Highway, 15 June) and Lolita will nicht sterben (Lolita Doesn’t Want to Die, 22 June).

Tickets for all events in June and July are available beginning on 1 May online at www.volksbuehne.berlin, and beginning on 2 May at the Volksbühne box office and by telephone on +49 (0) 30 2406 5777 as well.
