Concerts in February in the Volksbühne: Sandow, Christian Löffler & Ensemble, Michael Gira

The Volksbühne Berlin presents the following concerts in February:

Entfernte Welten
Wednesday, 7 February 2018, 8 pm
DJ beginning at 7 pm in the Parkettcafé: Henryk Gericke
Volksbühne Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz
18 € / 14 € (concessions)

In addition to Sandow's both legendary and excessive live shows, their hits “Schweigen und Parolen” (Silence and Slogans) and “Born in the GDR” contributed just as much to their fame as their appearance in the documentary film Flüstern und SCHREIEN (Whispering and Screaming). Tours with artists and bands such as Rio Reiser, the Toten Hosen and Rammstein – still an opening act at that time – were followed by complex and award-winning works for theatre and radio. Over five years after the “30 Years of Sandow” celebration in the summer of 2012, the avant-garde punks and underground legends of the GDR are now returning to the Volksbühne to present Entfernte Welten (Remote Worlds), released in September 2017, live for a Berlin audience. Created over a period of ten years, their tenth studio album is carried by guitar riffs, electronic beats and deep poetry. In a typical Sandow way, this work refuses to commit to a genre, drawing inspiration from elements of post-punk, avant-garde and new wave, as well as from their digressions into the world of theatre and radio plays.

Christian Löffler & Ensemble
Saturday, 17 February 2018, 8 pm
DJ beginning at 7 pm in the Parkettcafé: Falko Teichmann
Volksbühne Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz
24 € / 20 € (concessions)

The project that began at the “Heidelberger Frühling” international music festival back in the spring is now celebrating its Berlin debut. Producer Christian Löffler and vocalist Mohna will be accompanied by Quartetto Indaco's four string players. Through their arrangements, they take house tracks recorded live and refined by Mohna's haunting timbre to a new level of live production. Melancholy meets euphoria and flows into modern dance music for the stage, club and beyond. In addition to works from Löffler's albums A Forest, Young Alaska and Mare, previously unreleased songs will also be presented.

Michael Gira
Sunday, 18 February 2018, 8 pm
DJ beginning at 7 pm in the Parkettcafé: Henryk Gericke
Volksbühne Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz
20 € / 16 € (concessions)

After years of world tours and several acclaimed albums with his band SWANS, Michael Gira recently announced the end of the current line-up and said farewell with massive orgies of noise in sold-out concert halls. But anyone who's followed the busy songwriter, writer, label founder and bandleader's work knows that there's hardly any empty space in his diary. At the moment Gira is already working on new material for the next SWANS reincarnation. He's presenting parts of it on an upcoming solo tour in the same intense way, accompanied by nothing more than a guitar.
