VOLKSBÜHNE Tempelhof, Hangar 5

In May of this year the poet, spoken-word artist and playwright Kate Tempest was guest director of Brighton Festival, where she performed an orchestral version of her current album Let Them Eat Chaos. For her performance at Tempelhof the Volksbühne brought her together with the choir from Haus der Kulturen der Welt under the direction of Barbara Morgenstern. Together, they will develop a choral accompaniment in Berlin.

Kate Tempest began her stage career at open mic nights in West London, from where she worked her way up as supporting act for artists like Billy Bragg and Scroobius Pip, followed by extensive touring all over the world with her band Sound of Rum.

With influences ranging from Samuel Beckett to the Wu-Tang Clan, she has produced several volumes of poetry and albums over the years, written award-winning plays and performed as a solo artist at festivals such as Glastonbury, Latitude, Haldern Pop and Melt!. She is currently nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize with her current album Let Them Eat Chaos, along with other big names like alt-j and The xx.
