„ICH bin Karajan!”
Ein Abend zum 80. Geburtstag von Johann Kresnik
Roter Salon

In German

On 12.12.2019 Johann Kresnik would have turned 80. Now a farewell is irrevocably blending into the birthday party that was planned.

Much has been said and written about Kresnik and his art. Out of the farmer's boy from an estate in Kärnten emerged an extra, then a dancer, later a choreographer and director. The “berserker” revolutionised dance and established his own brand of dance theatre. Kresnik always remained a communist.

In the 1990s Kresnik completed the strong artistic profile of the Volksbühne with his company's performances. His drastic images evoked pain, dread, fear and violence. The spectator was forced to gaze upon that which they would rather forbid. In 2013 and 2015 Kresnik returned to the Volksbühne two more times. Completely in line with the Kresnik spirit, his final work, Die 120 Tage von Sodom, was very controversial, as most of his productions had been.

This evening we're celebrating Hans with many of his artist colleagues and friends. Featuring contributions from: Ilse Ritter, Yoshiko Waki, Sylvana Seddig, Jochen Kowalski, Christoph Klimke, Penelope Wehrli, Sibylle Dahrendorf und anderen.
